If you'd like to see anything from the 07 08 season, click here.

Our next team tryout is Tuesday, September 2nd at either Y from 5-6:30pm.  If any of your friends are interested in the team and they didn’t have a chance to come to the last tryout, please remind them of this date.  Remember that you get cash back - $25 - for any referrals that list you on their contract, who join the team.

At Massad Y on September 2nd at 5PM, you have a chance to meet, greet and ask questions of our newest AG I and JR coach – Terry Neidl.  He is very excited about joining the team and getting to know the swimmers so that he can begin the process of making them faster.  Hope to see you there.

At Massad Y, I would like a couple of volunteers to redo the main bulletin board as you come in express entrance, the awards cabinet between the 2 express entrance doors and the Swimmer of the Month plastic frames that need to be updated.  Please email me if you are interested.  Thanks, see you all soon, Bob

As most of you have heard, Terry Neidl has gotten a full time job as an Assistant Principal and Youth Religious Leader.  He will no longer be able to coach at the RAYS due to these commitments.  We will miss Terry, even though he has been here only a few weeks, many of you have found out what a fine person he was and we will all miss him.  Terry will be with us this week until Friday, come by and wish him luck with his future endeavors.

I am in the process of finding a coach or coaches, one for both groups or one for each group.  At the parents meetings, I will discuss the possibilities until we hire a person or persons.

OCTOBER

Practice is in full swing for the 2008-2009 Season, and we're still open to NEW swimmers!

Claire Winkler made a credible showing at the 5K Open Water Swim at Smith Mountain Lake in Roanoke last weekend.  She placed 29th, out of 87, overall and 7th in the 15-16 age group.  Congrats and keep it up.  Let’s hope others will become more interested in open water swimming because it is now an Olympic event

Have a good week.  Bob

BOB’S NOTE FROM JUNIOR NATIONALS:  Josh and Trevor just kept swimming well during the whole meet.  The 1st 2 days results are on the website.  On Sunday, Trevor just missed a best time in his 100 Free by .06 sec. and came in 52nd.  Josh had a phenomenal day – 3rd in the 200 BK at Finals – 1:47.61 – 6.60 sec faster than his best plus a new team record by 1.86 sec.  This swim also set a VA state record by 1.02 sec and also was a TOP 10 USA swimming time for 16 year olds.  In his 200 Fly – 1:51:84, it was his best time by 5.23 sec and set 2 team records, 15-16 and Senior records, by 2.99 and 1.82 sec respectively.  Congrats to both and way to go RAYS!

Junior Nationals Times, Record Matches, and Standard Jumps

MIKE’S NOTE FROM ANNAPOLISJust wanted to let you know, this past weekend at the Annapolis Meet everything went exceptionally well.  Our swimmers performed exceptional, they kept Missy, Delwyn and I busy, especially at Finals.  It seemed like we had swimmers in almost every heat, sometimes 2 or 3.  We had alot of swimmers who made it back to Finals for the first time, they make us proud.  And time drops, it seemed like everyone dropped times in most of their events.  One thing I thought was outstanding was the fact that as a team we got stronger both in and out of the water as the meet went on. There was lots of cheering, especially at Finals, little kids cheering for big kids, big kids cheering for little kids.  We had 4 individual and 1 relay records set.  It was a great weekend to be a RAY.
